It looks like Spidey finally has a win. Not to say this issue is anything stellar, but he does, for now, come out on top. The artwork in this issue is really great and it signals a small departure from what is a ‘normal’ spider-man book. Through a twist Peter gets de-powered for a period of time and has to exist on his wits alone. Cornball I know but it serves a purpose. This isn’t going to win any converts but it isn’t going to turn people away either. -Bretzke

While the first issue amounted to incomprehensible drivel, this is closer to the mark. Cunning stuff is happening and not everything is explained, this one leaves you wondering where the next stop is along the train line. Perhaps I derided too soon. -Bretzke

X-Men Noir: Mark of Cain #2

Confused, badly written, badly drawn. I could be describing a first grade essay but sadly its a Noir title. The pacing, formatting and artwork verges on incomprehensible in parts, completely removing the reader from the storytelling. I’d like to call it formulaic, but I doubt there’s a formula out there for “Utter nonsense”. The only thing more confusing is that this is an ongoing series! -Bretzke

They’ve got a plan and they’re going through with it! Storming New Olympus, and this wouldn’t be complete without some kind of ancient reference coughtrogancough. In the end though, far too many surprise appearances from people that need to introduce themselves as they walk onto panel. Note to all Villains; if you need to say who you are as you come on, we likely don’t care. -Bretzke

Incredible Hercules #138

Don’t let the title fool you, there’s no Hercules here. Just a kid with a grudge and a meddling god who appears too full of themselves. Herc’s so much fun! Bring him back, please. Oh, and apparently Peter Parker frequents homeless shelters. Read on, I’m not kidding. -Bretzke

Of all the Deadpool titles so far, this one is the least fun, though that isn’t to detract from the story presented. It is what is is: Gory. Deadpool teams up with Hercules and what should result in hilarity becomes a bludgeoning blood-bath. As a stand alone comic, entertaining, but if you are expecting the same level of shenanigans from ‘Pool, you’re going to be left wanting. -Bretzke

Deadpool Team-up #899

This may appear silly (and it is) but what it is really is damn entertaining. The art is pitch perfect and utterly immersive. Pay particular attention to the sound effects, these aren’t your normal “Crack” and “Bang”, with clangers like “Sukkapunch” and my favourite, a purple “Nurp”. This is my first taste of Hercules, I’m coming back for seconds. -Bretzke

Read this! Two words, very powerful, but do it! Forget the art and pacing, all perfect, what’s killer here is the story. This grips you at the start and while you don’t want the end to come, it does with shocking awe. Do note, you must read #602 first, but you’ll be glad you did. -Bretzke

The Amazing Spider-Man #603

Poor Pete! Everyone’s out to get him in one sense or another. We all used to want to be him, the irony of this statement will floor you when you read. A highly entertaining story with few distractions, besides hating the new ‘spider sense’ approach, and why the hell is Gilligan there?! -Bretzke

I kid you not, the King of Pop himself makes an appearance on page 21 of this book.
