Own this book. Take your time and read it, sumptuously devour its pages as though they will be the last thing you see. This is not your father’s comic book. I don’t even think this is our comic book. This belongs to the generations. -Bretzke

I think I think this every issue, but I swear this is my favorite B.P.R.D. yet! It took a read to get over the novelty of having Ba and Moon doing the artwork but after a second read I’m firmly convinced that their pairing with Mignola is the best thing to happen in a very long time. Beautiful!
While I can’t say this is better than volume 1, I can say I’m having a hard time saying it’s worse. The first issue, after all, had Fear Agent, guest contributors doing the Goon, the Umbrella Academy, Mike Mignola, and the ‘greatest comic ever created,’ Sugarshock. But volume 2 offers more Umbrella Academy, a great B.P.R.D. story, Captain Hammer, Conan, and a new story by Fabio Moon and Gabriel Ba. The one added bonus for vol. 2 is that I got it for half-price at Emerald City. In any case, love this anthology and the new stories it has introduced me to.
“Vampires are in and Slayers are out.” Cloonan + Lolos + Ba/Moon = This fanboy’s cream dream. The world of Buffy is a perfect one for this team. I hope they give us more in the future! And to borrow an appropriate quote from Captain Hammer (another Whedon character): “You see harmless death nerds…I see future super-villians.” A lovely thematic tie-in.
Boy goes to comic conventions. Boy buys anything associated with the names Ba or Moon. Boy is treated to this delightful little story that’s something like Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure meets Kill Bill.
…I heard a rumor that there’s going to be an Umbrella Academy film. This book reads like the best works of Wes Anderson–captivating art direction and environments, a powerful blend of humor and deep sadness, and a smart amount of character interplay. Sad to see it go, if only for the moment.
Dear God, two questions if I might: 1) Why can’t I draw like Gabriel Ba? 2) Why must there only be one more issue in this series?
By now, reviews are redundant: Still hilarious. Still really smart. Still gorgeous and original. Could anyone still be ignoring this book?

The Umbrella Academy, Dallas #4
Dark Horse announced Friday at New York Comic Con that the international indie comic team of Becky Cloonan, Vasilis Lolos, and brothers Gabriel Bá and Fabio Moon reunite for a very special one-shot titled “Buffy the Vampire Slayer
: Tales of the Vampires.” Written by Cloonan and illustrated by Lolos, with covers by Bá and Moon, this will be the first “Tales” feature since the Season 8 comic began. Dark Horse will also be offering a hardcover edition of “Pixu” (pronounced “pee-shu”) that the group had originally self-published.
