Highlights from Emerald City Comic Con

Art Shopping, Shows/Conventions

Hey all! I’m back from Emerald City Comic Con after an AMAZING weekend! Bought a number of new books, but more importantly scored a ton of new art! I would have to say the highlight of the show was chatting with Stefano Gaudiano (Spider-Man, Daredevil) and Matthew Southworth (Stumptown), who were conveniently seated next to one another. Stefano shall forever more be known as the nicest creator in comics! Incredibly friendly. AND he drew me not one but TWO incredible sketches–one for my Umbrella Academy collection (see the Gallery tab above) and this stunning Daredevil!

I feel pretty damn special right about now! Southworth was awesome too (and did an amazing Kraken in front of the St. Johns Bridge). He and my buddy Tommy must have talked drawing technique for an hour or more all told. I also scored original sketches from Moritat, Steve Lieber, and Steve Rolston, plus a quick sketch (Gus from Sweet Tooth) and 9×12 commission (Spaceboy) from Jeff Lemire.

The Emerald City con has become one of the premier cons around. I highly recommend that you check it out next year if you can! Peace. -Scott

Comic Review: Sweet Tooth #7

JESUS CHRIST, Jeff! You’re killing me. I literally cringe at the page turns, ready for my gut (and heart) to be further wrenched in some new direction. This book is brilliant. #6 was part one of the new arc. Get in now or wait for the trade so you don’t have to suffer 29 days of anticipation each month. -Scott

Oh thank God. I thought there was just money in that bag. Gut wrenching and beautiful, though it’s getting redundant to say so. -Scott

Comic Review: Sweet Tooth #3

It’s to the point that I will follow Jeff Lemire anywhere–into any world that he creates. In a single panel, he can make me care deeply for his characters, and with the room a series like this provides, he is taking us on an adventure that stands out from anything else I’m seeing in comics today. Ready and waiting for #4. -Scott

Comic Review (in 140 characters or less): Essex County Vol. 1, Tales From The Farm

Reviews

Death, fear, isolation. Les comes of age in small town Ontario. A unique set of circumstances woven into a universal experience. Brilliant.
