Comic Review: Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Willow (One Shot), “Goddesses and Monsters”.

Reviews

This checks the box as a ‘Whedonverse” book, but the overall impression is that of something superficial and vapid.  Willow has always been my favorite character and to have her given this lip service is troubling.  While not worthy of being burnt (at the stake?) the best thing about this issue is the cover. -Bretzke

Comic Review: Sugarshock (One Shot)

Reviews

Seems to be a running theme with this weeks title’s – Great art!  This is rendered with something closer to what we’ve seen from later issues of ‘Spirit’ or ‘Mysterius the Unfathomable’.  Its a pleasure to read, light hearted and at times, whimsical.  The cover says “Eisner award Winner”, its plain to see why.  P.S. Robots!  - Bretzke

Comic Review: Buffy the Vampire Slayer – Tales of the Vampires one-shot

“Vampires are in and Slayers are out.” Cloonan + Lolos + Ba/Moon = This fanboy’s cream dream. The world of Buffy is a perfect one for this team. I hope they give us more in the future! And to borrow an appropriate quote from Captain Hammer (another Whedon character): “You see harmless death nerds…I see future super-villians.” A lovely thematic tie-in.

Comic Review: Giant-size Astonishing X-Men #1

Reviews

I have never been so nervous about Warren Ellis, as I am in contemplating his ability to successfully match this brilliant 25-issue run by Joss Whedon. Extraordinary. I’m gushing, but seriously, go get issues 1-24+Giant-size today. I got them on eBay for just a hair over a buck an issue. You won’t be sorry. Then tell me how much Joss’ Kitty Pryde reminds you of Kaylee Frye, from Firefly…and how you fell in love with them in the same way, for their fiesty cuteness and sense of extraordinary potential…and how this finale would have been as fitting for Kaylee as it is for Kitty. Awesome.

A perfect blend of evil and glee. Wolverine as child, scared and praying to the lord + huge off world events and a key last-page reveal!

Jumping into Buffy with no previous read/watch experience is like random sex w/out a condom. Really fun but pretty reckless.

On par with best Firefly eps. Violence, humor, tension, honor, love, hijinks. And it turns out Zoe’s an even bigger badass than I thought!

A fun adventure w/enough content to fill TV/movie gap. I <3 that I can still hear their real voices as I read! Such great personalities!
