They’ve got a plan and they’re going through with it! Storming New Olympus, and this wouldn’t be complete without some kind of ancient reference coughtrogancough. In the end though, far too many surprise appearances from people that need to introduce themselves as they walk onto panel. Note to all Villains; if you need to say who you are as you come on, we likely don’t care. -Bretzke

Incredible Hercules #138

Don’t let the title fool you, there’s no Hercules here. Just a kid with a grudge and a meddling god who appears too full of themselves. Herc’s so much fun! Bring him back, please. Oh, and apparently Peter Parker frequents homeless shelters. Read on, I’m not kidding. -Bretzke

The Incredible Hercules #137

This may appear silly (and it is) but what it is really is damn entertaining. The art is pitch perfect and utterly immersive. Pay particular attention to the sound effects, these aren’t your normal “Crack” and “Bang”, with clangers like “Sukkapunch” and my favourite, a purple “Nurp”. This is my first taste of Hercules, I’m coming back for seconds. -Bretzke

The Incredible Hercules #136

Wow, just wow! This issue is packed! From upheaval with Judge Dredd to intergalactic mayhem with Shakara. Entertainment is guaranteed. The artwork is flawless and the writing is snappy. If you can deal with the periodical nature of this tome, get on board now! -Bretzke

2000AD = Program #1650

Remember your first roleplaying game, where each player takes turns in asserting how great they are? That’s what this issue dissolves into. The cover claims to offer answers, but all that is delivered is a very weak ending to something that could have been good. Were I offered power over time and space, I’d travel back to stop myself reading this issue. It’s the end of this run, probably for the best. -Bretzke

Exiles #6

There’s only one boobie in this whole issue, and still it’s better than #3 to be sure. In fact, if they’d just started this Vic the Veep flashback narrative a bit sooner, it probably could have improved the last issue considerably. Here’s hopin’ this is back on track for the last couple issues.

I want to like this, I really do. Blink is on the cover and teleportation is always cool, but this falls far short. The mechanics of the plot are at times convoluted, at other times offensively predictable. The art is capable but unless you really need to know what happens next (no surprises), then skip it. -Bretzke

Exiles #5

Huh. Yeah. Starting to think maybe this series should have been a one-shot. Could have had all the laughs, shock and awe, and saved me a few bucks along the way.

Drugs laced with vaginal mucus and dried foetus!? Boob honking!? It’s all here, along with a hint of an actual plot! But are the boys the hunters or the hunted!?

Fans of the original are going to be left scratching their heads. In this case it’s best to come in ignorant and enjoy the show. Temporal shifts in the story tend to be confusing but in the end it ties together. Character names are preserved from the original but their context is still fairly unclear. If you enjoy your science fiction with a side order of misogyny then this is typical fare. Illustration work here is occasionally let down by clumsy colours but you only notice this when the story gets confusing. Planet of the apes with anti-grav suits! -Bretzke
